Last Friday afternoon Scott and I packed ourselves and Leigan up to head out for a hike at Hanging Rock State Park. We’ve been there a couple times before and done the more common hikes to the waterfalls and to the famous hanging rock.
I’ve been following Maddy from Madelyn On The Move on Instagram and saw that she had posted about another hike there we hadn’t tried.
The trail is named Moore’s Wall Loop Trail and it is labeled as a 4.7 mile strenuous hike. I read Maddy’s review and also looked the trail up on the All Trails app before we went (which I always recommend doing). The trail is a loop and based on what I read we decided to start and go clockwise for a more gradual incline instead of taking a lot of stairs. It wasn’t terrible and then we had all the stairs coming down. If that is something that bothers you take the loop in the counter clockwise direction.
The hike was hard, but not so hard that I wouldn’t recommend it or want to do it again. It’s completely doable if you take your time and know your pace.
I was kind of bummed by the time we got to hanging rock around 4:30pm because it was super cloudy, but as we climbed to the lookout area it got more and more sunnier. By the time we reached the old fire tower/lookout area the weather and views were perfect! It was also very quiet on the trail and we saw only 4 other groups of people (2 hiking and 2 at the look out area).
I think the views from this trail are better than the views at the actual hanging rock. This lookout spot offers a complete 360 degree view which is awesome! Put this hike on your to do list for sure.
