St. Simons Island, GA is the largest barrier island in the Golden Isles located along the coast of Georgia between Savannah and Jacksonville. It is a quintessential southern beach town with beautiful Southern Oak trees draped with Spanish moss.
We visited with Scott’s family and stayed in a gorgeous beach house within walking distance of the beach and within biking distance of the pier area. One interesting thing I found while out walking and biking around were the Tree Spirits. They were fun to look for while out walking and biking around, but I think there were a few I did not find.
We used St. Simons Trolley Tours (looks like they’re temporarily closed) to do a trolley tour of the island which was a perfect way to experience it! We got to stop and see the most iconic spot with the Oak trees and Spanish moss along with learning a lot of the island’s history.
It is about a 40 minute drive to Jekyll Island and it is for sure worth the visit if you have time! We walked around the Jekyll Island Club and had lunch along the beach. My favorite part was visiting the iconic driftwood beach!
We didn’t eat out a lot since there was a larger group of us and we had a full kitchen, but we did have dinner one night at the half shell restaurant. It is small and we were there basically when they opened and still had to wait quite a while, but we went to a place next door for appetizers and drinks. I had some fresh seafood and it was quite delicious!
We topped our trip home off with a visit to Buc-ees (and yes it was worth the hype)!
